Biography

Guo Shuzhong, Male, Chief Physician, Professor, Director of Plastic Surgery, and Doctoral Supervisor.
He graduated from the Department of Medicine of the Fourth Military Medical University in 1983, obtained a master's degree in 1988 and a doctoral degree in 1994, was a visiting scholar at the University of Southern California and other institutions from 1995 to 1996, and completed postdoctoral research at the University of Virginia School of Medicine from 1996 to 1997.

Major Achievements
Professor Guo Shuzhong has worked in the field of plastic surgery for 35 years and is a renowned expert in body surface organ reconstruction in China. He has exceptionally profound expertise, especially in ear reconstruction, nasal reconstruction, genital reconstruction, intimate plastic and aesthetic surgery, abdominoplasty, and other various plastic and aesthetic repairs and plastic surgeries for complex and rare diseases.

As the chief surgeon, he completed Asia's first and the world's second “face transplant”; the research results were published in the important international academic journal The Lancet and received the First Prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award. He has been invited to deliver plenary lectures at more than 20 international conferences, and plastic surgeons from the United States, Japan, Brazil, Singapore, and China's Taiwan and Hong Kong regions have made special trips to observe his ear reconstruction surgeries. He has performed many difficult and complex surgeries as chief surgeon, and they have been extensively reported by well-known domestic and international media such as CNN, ABC, BBC, The Times, Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post, and CCTV.

Honors
In 2009, Professor Guo Shuzhong was appointed as a “Changjiang Scholar” Distinguished Professor by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China. He has also been selected as an “Outstanding Young and Middle-aged Technical Expert” of the General Logistics Department, an “Outstanding Teacher of the Whole Army” of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, a “Top-notch Scientific and Technological Talent” of the General Political Department, one of the “2014 Top Ten Most Reputable Doctors in China” (No. 1) by China Medical Tribune, and an Outstanding Communist Party Member of the General Logistics Department. He enjoys the special government allowance of the State Council.

Public Welfare and Charity:
Founder of the Medical Assistance Platform of the Lige Charity Foundation.
Professor Guo Shuzhong has been engaged in plastic surgery for more than 30 years and has treated tens of thousands of patients with congenital deformities. He deeply understands the psychological pain and mental trauma suffered by children with congenital body surface deformities and their families as a result. Discrimination and ridicule in society have deprived these children of confidence and smiles. In his years of medical practice, he has often encountered many children who could not receive treatment simply because they could not afford medical expenses, and he deeply sympathizes with them.
He said: “Although we cannot change people's prejudice and discrimination against these children overnight, as doctors, we can at least improve patients' living conditions.” Therefore, he has always hoped to establish a foundation together with capable and caring members of society to help these children with congenital deformities.
Accordingly, on June 15, 2017, Professor Guo Shuzhong, together with Mr. Liu Shilai, co-founder of United Lige Group, and Mr. Li Bin, Chairman of United Lige, jointly proposed the establishment of the “Lige Charity Foundation” Medical Assistance Platform, to repair the regrets of children with congenital defects and help them begin new lives.
